Photo Gallery from Kennedy Assassination
Marquette University: The Kennedy Assassination Project
Description: This large collection of digital images surrounding the assassination of President John F. Kennedy allows students an opportunity to view the event in greater detail than is available in most textbooks. (Primary source material).
Teaching Tips:
"Do Now" Suggestion
- Show a photograph of JFK and ask students who it is, and then have them explain what happened to him. Have students brainstorm who they think killed the president and why. After viewing some of the photographs have students write a newspaper article about the events of the day describing the scenes from the pictures and the reactions of the people.
- Have students pick one of the photographs of a person involved in the Kennedy Assassination, and write a complete biography on that person. Follow the Kennedy assassination through a series of photographs. Give students a worksheet where they can identify each photograph including people, events, and significance. Have students divide into groups and assign them one of the theories as to who shot JFK. Students should use the photographic evidence and other research to make a case for their theory. As a class students can argue for their theory and question other theories then decide as a class what they think happened.
