Redstone Arsenal - A Case Study of Women at War
United States Army: Women's History

Description: This project website documents the work of women at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, in what was considered a path-breaking war effort. (Secondary source material with hyperlinked primary source artifacts)

Teaching Tips:

"Do Now" Suggestion
  • There is a link to a video clip, which introduces the female experience at the Redstone Arsenal, on the website. Students can watch the short video and at the end, the teacher can ask students to write down anything that they saw or heard that they found interesting or that surprised them. The class can then discuss the students' ideas.
Suggestion for Using this Resource as Part of a Lesson
  • Students can read the information about Redstone Arsenal on the website and create an historical marker for the Arsenal. The site offers a lot of information about the Arsenal, but the students will have to sort through it to find the most relevant information for their marker.
