Teaching Tips:

"Do Now" Suggestion
  • After students have a chance to look at the photograph from Iwo Jima and read the short description on the website, the teacher can break them into groups of 4 to recreate the scene from the photograph. The class can vote on the most dramatic recreation.
Suggestion for Using this Resource as Part of a Lesson
  • In the culminating project described in the activity section for VUS.10b.12, this could be a useful research for a student creating a PowerPoint presentation on Iwo Jima.
