The roots of the Lewis and Clark expedition are planted deep in Albemarle County soil. The first generation of white settlers who came to this area from Virginia's coastal plains in the 1730s were explorers themselves. These Meriwethers, Lewises, Clarks, Walkers and Jeffersons surveyed the piedmont landscape and planted the dreams of far western exploration. Nurtured by succeeding generations, this legacy would bear fruit in the deeds of westering explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark four generations later.

Follow the development of this legacy through the short video clips presented here in four main categories and eleven subcategories along with an archive of historical documents, links to relevant Web sites, and project credits.
