Height and Cowan sent teams of women to Mississippi throughout July and August of 1964. These women bore witness to the need for change. They listened to the women they met. They flew south where they would experience culture shock as they encountered southern culture.

Northern inter-racial teams of women flew to Jackson, Mississippi, on a Tuesday, visited a community outside the state capital on Wednesday, and returned home on a Thursday. Team one was from New York and paved the way. Team six was from Chicago, went to Canton on their Wednesday, and was the first time white Jackson women were willing to host white WIMS guests -- an active of fellowship provided within the African-American community from the beginning.
